It Started with a Simple Belief

Beeswax Bay Farm began the way most good things do: quietly, with conviction, and without a grand plan.

We're a small family smallholding in Atherstone, Warwickshire. We raise quail, keep ourselves busy with the rhythms of the land, and somewhere along the way we started pouring beeswax candles. Not because we spotted a gap in the market. But because we believed there was a better way to make them — and that people deserved to know what they were actually burning in their homes.

That belief hasn't changed. Everything we do at Beeswax Bay Farm still comes from the same place.

The Wax: Pure, Unbleached, Traceable

Not all beeswax is created equal. Most commercial beeswax candles — even ones marketed as natural — contain a blend of beeswax and paraffin, or use chemically bleached wax that's been stripped of its natural colour and scent.

Ours doesn't.

We source 100% pure, unbleached beeswax from Devon — a part of England with a rich beekeeping tradition and wildflower-rich countryside that gives the wax its warm, golden colour and that distinctive gentle honey scent. Every batch we receive still smells of the hive. That's how you know it's the real thing.

We never blend it with paraffin. We never add synthetic fragrance. What you burn is exactly what nature produced — nothing more, nothing less.

If you'd like to understand more about how bees actually produce this extraordinary material, have a read of our post From Flower to Flame: How Bees Make Beeswax — it's a fascinating process that most people have never thought about.

Small Batch, by Hand, Every Time

We don't have a factory. We don't have automated machinery churning out thousands of candles an hour.

Every candle we sell is hand-poured in small batches here on the farm. That means every single one gets proper attention — the right temperature, the right wick placement, the right cooling time. It also means that if something isn't right, we notice. And we don't send it out.

This matters more than it might sound. Mass-produced candles are optimised for speed and margin. Ours are optimised for quality and longevity. A well-made beeswax candle, burned correctly, will outlast a comparable paraffin candle significantly — and the difference is in the making.

We think that's worth something.

Genuinely Plastic-Free

We made a decision early on that our packaging would create no unnecessary waste. Not as a marketing choice — as a practical one, because it's the right thing to do.

Our candles are wrapped and shipped in materials that are either biodegradable, recyclable, or reusable. No bubble wrap. No unnecessary plastic. Our shipping materials are made from post-consumer recycled fibre. When your order arrives, everything that comes with it can go back into the earth or the recycling bin — none of it needs to go to landfill.

For many of our customers, this matters as much as the candle itself. We understand that. And we take it seriously.

A Farm, Not Just a Shop

Something we hear often from customers is that buying from us feels different to buying from a faceless online retailer. We think that's because we are different.

We're a working smallholding. Alongside our candles and handmade wooden home décor, we raise Coturnix quail — including the beautiful Celadon variety, known for their distinctive blue-green eggs. We offer fertile quail hatching eggs and quail for sale to smallholders and breeders across the UK.

The candles and the quail and the wooden décor all come from the same place — a small piece of Warwickshire countryside where things are still done properly, by hand, with care.

When you buy from us, you're supporting that directly. Not a supply chain. Not a corporation. A family farm.

9,800 Sales and Still Small on Purpose

We've sold nearly 10,000 orders through our Etsy shop — which still surprises us, if we're honest. We've been awarded Star Seller status, we have over 2,100 reviews averaging 4.9 stars, and customers come back again and again.

We're proud of all of that. But we haven't used it as a reason to scale up, automate, or compromise.

We're still small on purpose. Because small means personal. Small means every candle matters. Small means if you get in touch with a question about your order, you're talking to the person who poured it.

That's something you can't buy once you've lost it.
