There is something about a summer evening that calls for candlelight. The long June dusk, a table outside, the garden finally warm enough to sit in - and a candle or two flickering in the still air.

But not all candles are made for evenings outdoors. Hand-poured at our smallholding in Atherstone, Warwickshire, our pure beeswax candles are the natural choice for summer - and here is why.

Why Beeswax Works Better in Summer

Paraffin candles are made from petroleum - a by-product of crude oil refining. In warm summer temperatures, they soften faster, burn unevenly and release the kind of sooty smoke you really do not want drifting across a garden table.

Beeswax is a completely different material. It has a higher melting point than paraffin, which means it holds its shape better in warm weather and burns slowly and evenly even on a still summer night. No soot, no synthetic fragrance, no chemicals drifting into the warm air around you.

Just a clean, steady flame and the faint natural scent of honey.

The Best Beeswax Candles for Summer Evenings

Beeswax Tealights Our most popular candle for outdoor use. Small, sturdy and presented in aluminium cups that sit securely on any surface. Line them along a garden wall, cluster them on a table, or tuck them into lanterns. Available in sets of 2 to 20 - perfect for stocking up for the whole summer.

  • Burn time: up to 5 hours per candle
  • Wax: 100% pure Devon beeswax
  • Wick: natural cotton - no zinc

Pillar Candles For a more substantial centrepiece, our beeswax pillar candles make a beautiful focal point on an outdoor table. The warm golden colour of real beeswax glows beautifully in the evening light in a way that white paraffin candles simply cannot replicate.

Taper Candles If you are setting a table for a summer dinner outside, beeswax tapers are the most elegant option. Long-burning and dripless when used correctly, they bring a warmth to an outdoor table setting that no battery candle can match.

Summer Candle Safety Tips

  • Never leave candles unattended outdoors - even on a still evening, air movement can change quickly
  • Keep candles away from dry plants, paper decorations, and fabric
  • Use a lantern or windproof holder for tealights outdoors - it protects the flame and looks beautiful
  • Trim the wick to 5mm before each burn for an even, clean flame
  • Always place on a stable, heat-resistant surface
